NOTES FOR THE MEETING ON 2nd FEBRUARY 2002
We will be looking at the keyboard, and how it works. In particular, we will look at Function Keys and the Control, Alternate and Alternate Graphics keys, and how they can be used to type characters not on your keyboard. Don't forget to bring your own keyboard with you!
Secondly, we will be looking at the various components of a computer, and how they all gel together to create the machine we all know and hate. I will have examples of things such as hard disks for you to look at.
Finally, we will be looking at the various components of a Windows window, and what they do.
I will be bringing in some copies of my own book for sale, at €3 per copy, and I'm still hoping to have copies of Moira Stephen's book available for those of you who have asked me to order it for you..
The text bookbook is:
Catching Up With Computers by Moira Stephen
Published by the Pearson Education division of Prentice-Hall
ISBN 0-130-90823-1
If you don't want to buy a copy of my book, may I suggest you download it from the link below.
I have re-written the first part of my own small book on "Computing for the Bewildered".
I have made this available for Download, and also as hard copy. and will make this available, but I just don't think I'll be able to re-write the rest, for which I would need to start from scratch.
If you have any suggestions, please e-mail them to me at questions@billnot.com before the meeting if possible, so that I can think about them!
Hope to see you Saturday, and don't forget your keyboards!!.
