Because of the impending loss of BBC TV and radio channels from our area, we looked at listening to the radio over the Internet.  After installing Real Player, we successfully listened to most BBC Radio stations.  We then had a brief look at Usenet newsgroups and other forms of discussion groups, including Yahoo groups.
