COMPUTING FOR THE BEWILDERED

Matters arising from the meeting on 5th April 2003

We discovered the world of image resizing and manipulation that we should have investigated last week, taking large images from a CD-ROM transferred directly from a camera, and reducing their size using the JPEG compression tool Ignite from http://www.ignite-it.co.uk/ which is now virtually Freeware.  Unlike last week, all went well, and I think you all understood the point of the exercise - that an image can be compressed to a fraction of its original size and still only lose an insignificant amount of detail.
